In an interview last year before the completion of Horizon Sunderland; Developer Tarun Agrawal and project contractor Steve Arskey explain why Horizon has introduced Sunderland to a unique standard of accommodation for young professionals, university leavers and university students.
Tarun proudly tells us how the Horizon building has so much character. Many of the Sunderland buildings offer a city view, a canal view, a sea view or a garden view but this building offers all of them, mixed into one aspect and feels so lucky to be able to take on a project such as this. Like-minded Steve Arskey, from Arskey & Co. was instantly as excited in the project and could see Tarun’s vision after their first meeting.

Tarun’s idea is to provide occupancy and the needs for one person and providing the right finishes allowing the tenant to relax. Also to provide enough storage, facilities and space to cook and feel very at home.
Outside the tenants comfortable living space is the social and communal facilities that will be so welcomed by the tenants of this building. There is a wonderful social space where 15 people can comfortably relax, cook and dine. Plus a games rooms and cinema room for groups of friends.
High specification was paramount to the developer and all consultants involved because this leads to repeat business from the tenants feeling so comfortable and at home. What tenants will love about this accommodation is how affordable and inclusive it is – all bills and facilities are included in the monthly rent.
Both Tarun and Steve feel there is nothing comparable in Sunderland and all consultants and companies involved in the project are form London, Birmingham and Manchester. They have all modestly tried to set a bench-mark in Sunderland, or at the very least set the bar extremely high by giving something that’s simply not available, whether the subject is facilities, finishing or structure..
